Our Team Project: An Overview
Over the last several years, the SMARTboard has become a prominent fixture in classrooms across the Greater Essex County District School Board. We are all primary teachers working in various elementary schools and many of us have been using this amazing resource since it's inception. We have also held board-wide workshops to help teachers implement this technology into their classrooms. We felt now was the time to expand beyond the basics of the SMARTboard and start working collaboratively with our fellow teachers to create whole units for use on the SMARTboard.
After much discussion, we agreed that the best way to do this was to create a wiki. We would begin the process by offering a complete media literacy unit for download to invited members of our board. Our intent was for teachers to download it and use it in their classrooms. We wanted them to comment on their experiences with the unit to help create a "super" notebook. Our wiki was titled, Ontario SMARTer Classrooms. The unit we chose to upload was an exemplary one created by one of our members, Margo Sanger. The media literacy unit was Bubblegum. We have had some success whereby our invited members have commented on the unit, and added to it.
We are in the planning stages of a new phase for our wiki whereby we will begin to offer up notebooks to our invited members from various areas of our curriculum (ie. math, language). To that end, we are also beginning to receive notebooks from our invited members which we will post for use in the classroom. We are happy so far with our project. Though we had hoped to have more input from our members at this point, we realize that this is a project which will take time as people move from "lurkers" to active participants in our project.
